Nice curves around the Bay of Angels, backed by its own hills and the first ridges of the Alps. Ruled for centuries by the House of Savoy and French only since 1860, it has kept ochre façades, arcaded squares and a cuisine all its own, from socca to pissaladière. In 2021 UNESCO recognised its story as a winter resort, shaped by the European visitors who came to spend the colder months here in the nineteenth century.
Much of the city can be explored on foot, yet its finest viewpoints sit on the hills and its districts are spread out: Old Nice and Cimiez, the port and Mont Boron. With a private chauffeur you move from one to the next without hunting for parking or waiting for a bus, and save your energy for walking where it is truly worth it.
