The hilltop village of Èze looks out over the Mediterranean between Nice and Monaco, a short drive along the Corniche roads. Your chauffeur drops you at the foot of the lanes, collects you at the agreed time and drives on to Monaco, Villefranche-sur-Mer or your hotel.
Why go
Èze clings to a rocky peak more than 400 metres above the Mediterranean, between Nice and Monaco. This fortified medieval village has kept its vaulted passages, stone houses and stairways climbing to the ruins of its castle, razed in the early eighteenth century. At the very top, the exotic garden offers one of the widest views on the Riviera, over Cap Ferrat, the bay of Beaulieu and the open sea.
The heart of the village is entirely pedestrian and parking is limited in season. With a chauffeur there is no space to hunt for and no bus timetable to watch: you are dropped at the foot of the village, collected at the agreed time, and the rest of the day follows at your own pace. Èze pairs naturally with nearby Monaco, or with Villefranche-sur-Mer on the way back.

01 · THE VILLAGE
Beyond the fortified gate, cobbled lanes wind up between stone houses, vaulted passages, craft workshops and galleries. Stop at the church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption, with its Baroque interior, and at the small Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs, tucked beside a little square.
02 · THE VIEW
Laid out at the top of the village on the ruins of the castle, the garden gathers cacti, agaves and succulents around clay sculptures of female figures. Its highest terrace gives the most spectacular view in Èze, across Cap Ferrat and the sea.
03 · THE ROAD
Three roads link Nice and Monaco, one above the other. The Moyenne Corniche runs at the foot of the village; the higher Grande Corniche opens sweeping views over Èze and Cap Ferrat from the Col d'Èze and the Grande Corniche park, before La Turbie.
04 · THE CRAFT
On the Moyenne Corniche at the foot of the village, Fragonard and Galimard, two perfume houses from Grasse, introduce the raw materials, the stills and the making of perfume, with a shop at the end of the visit. A popular stop with children.
05 · THE WALK
This steep footpath drops from the village to Èze-sur-Mer through pines and olive trees. Friedrich Nietzsche walked it during his stays on the Riviera and is said to have conceived part of Thus Spoke Zarathustra here. Wear good shoes; your chauffeur collects you at the bottom.

Up to the garden for the view while it is still cool, back down through the lanes and past the church, then a stop at a perfumery below the village before setting off again.

A short drive to the Rock, the Prince's Palace and Port Hercule. Lunch at your leisure in Monaco while your chauffeur waits at the agreed meeting point.
15:00 · NICE
Return via the Grande Corniche and La Turbie for a last view along the coast, or by the seafront road. Possible variation: end the day in Villefranche-sur-Mer.

Practical information
The village is pedestrian and parking is limited in season. Your chauffeur drops you at the closest permitted point to the entrance, then collects you there or down in Èze-sur-Mer.
The lanes are cobbled, steep and broken by stairways all the way up to the garden. Wear comfortable shoes and mention any mobility difficulty when you book.
Early in the morning or late in the afternoon, the village is quieter and the light softer. Around midday in summer, the groups and the heat both gather in the lanes.
Entry to the exotic garden is charged, unlike the village lanes. Yet this is where the great panoramic view is, so keep time for it in your visit.
Down by the sea, Èze-sur-Mer station sits on the coastal line between Nice and Monaco. It is where the Nietzsche path comes out, and your chauffeur can wait for you there.
The lanes and the garden offer little shade in summer. Bring a hat and sun cream; water is waiting for you on board during the drives between stops.
